So I should say that mostly this has been fun. I did not think that I would be a substantial breakfast and oatmeal eater but every day my Husband and I have the big B.
We are both losing wieght and we really have not dieted, simply moving our calories to earlier in the day, and focused on the veggies, and high quality sustanance in all other meals.
Good stuff with both of us already down about 5 pounds.

I am feeling good and motivation remains high. Today as I went to work, they had a table out front where they were collecting school supplies for Missoula kids (good). Also giving away donuts (BAD) and coffee. Since I had already donated some stuff in the collection box I sailed right past the donuts without a second glance. Not to say I haven't thought about them a little.
But still, cravings and excuses are not getting the better of me today.

Ah, Lise- great job. You might find a little self-hypnotic mind game to be helpful here as well to further elevate and cement your changing preferences. (No willpower needed).

What I'm suggesting is that when you notice the donuts, you let your mind consider what they are made of, their quality, their health benefit to you, how you would likely feel after eating one or two... and then see yourself as outraged that it is even LEGAL to ply innocent bystanders with such addictive trash. Would they let them hand out methamphetamine??? Is there any difference??? Enhancing and exaggerating is helpful (we are combating the enhancements and exaggerations of the advertisers- so we need to fight fire with fire!)

I used this method whenever I walk by the dessert display at Safeway. I used to have to fight the desire to get something chocolate or to pick up their tiramisu. Well, in reality, nothing in their dessert case is really any good. Let alone good for me. Using the visualization above really cemented my healthy frame of mind and now its a breeze to walk by the dessert case.

Now, it might not be so easy to walk by a Bernice's Bakery dessert lineup- but what I've found is that a hummer dessert doesn't beckon the way the low quality ones do. We talk about hummers and beckoners later in the program.

Now, after thinking of you having to walk by those donuts, all I can think about is how much I want a carrot. Weird!

Hey Carla thanks for the supportive suggestions. Actually now that I think of it, I was not exactly outraged but definately pissed that the donuts were being pushed. It's like oh great thanks a lot for throwing those things in my path.
I have for many years brought my own food to work, because I recognised the quality of the food offered in the cafeteria was not that high. It really started as a taste and freshness preference for me. But as I became more of a label reader, and started to examine the foods being offered, I made a serious committment to NEVER eat at the cafeteria. Breakfasts feature many high fat high processed foods. The yogurt even has HFCS. Ach. Desserts of all kinds are easily available. Not so easy to find a variety of fresh fruit. Anyway. As I am working with this HHoO process, I am happy that I already had some good habits in place, that is making my own lunches, bring my own snacks, no sugar sweetened drinks, salads every day. Now bumping up to another level seems so appropriate and manageable. Thanks for thinking this up!

Thanks for sharing about your success at by-passing the donuts, Lise. It evoked a powerful reply from Carla.

All aspects of HHO are important, yet for me, the psychological piece has been the golden nugget which has allowed me to successfully mine and polish the many rich treasures of this program.

Cheers for your good habits already in place and your openness to be "bumping up to another level!"

Scot and I went camping for a week down at the Wise River. We had a great trip with a couple of fairly lenghthy hikes mixed in.
We continued our healthy habits in the camper, with oatmeal and berries and eggs with zucchini for breakfast, along with some little turkey meat servings. Sandwiches for hikes were topped with major amounts of lettuce.
Suppers always included a big mixed salad.
Scot is so happy because he has lost 10 lbs on this program,
he is proud to be avoiding crazy hi cal snacks etc. Of course at home he eats whatever I fix.
I have also dropped 10 lbs since I started this. a solid 10 lbs, that is I've mantasined it for several days so I know it isn't just a fluke.
Life on the Wise River was very beautiful with good weather. Our camp was right on the river, just steps away. Frogs, and cutthroat and brookies and a catfish were what I saw in the water. Sand cranes visited us several times. When I do my relaxation exercise I can conjure up the Wise

Congratulations, Lise on your committment, your weight loss and the spillover impact on your Scot.

You prompted me to look for a map of the Wise River. Cool!
